Copenhagen’s districts

Meet the locals! Just across the city lakes, hardly a mile from the city centre, this is where you will find the first city districts – some booming with activity, young people, food-drinks, others more relaxed but still with good food and drinks.
If you wish to meet the locals in their own neighborhood, you should venture beyond the city lakes. Here you will see the everyday life of Copenhageners. The districts are all quite different, so you may have to settle for one, or take your time and see a couple.
CITY DISTRICTS.
Copenhagen’s districts are quite different. You find some older and quieter neighborhoods with excellent restaurants and entertainment. Look for Frederiksberg with its Royal Chateau, garden and entertainment district or go to the more residential Østerbro with its big green park (Fælledparken), or head for the district’s fine wine and dining places.
Want a bit more action? Explore the former working-class neighborhoods that sprung up when the ramparts came down in the 1850’s. These areas have been renovated and certainly have a more alternative or hipster life style on offer plus cheaper food and beer. You could go to Nørrebro, Vesterbro or Islands Brygge. In the latter, you can take a swim in the harbor as well!
Also, some new areas are springing up, such as Ørestaden, Nordhavn, and Sydhavn, which make for interesting visits, even though the night life there is not particularly jumping yet.
