Today Danish architects are creating fabulous buildings all over the world. Come see some of the finest examples in Copenhagen and get to understand the social and cultural conditions that inspired many of the architects.
Several Danish architects have created famous buildings in the past, not least Utzon’s Opera House in Sydney, Spreckelsen’s Humanity’s Arch of Triumph in Paris to mention but a few. More recently Bjarke Ingels Group has won fame for his apartment block, the Court-Scraber, on West Manhattan.
This tour aims to show you some of finest recent examples of Danish Architecture in Copenhagen, and explain where this all comes from.
MODERN ARCHITECTURE – CUTTING EDGE WITH A HUMAN TOUCH
On the tour, you can get to see recent residential buildings in Nordhavn such as the Silo, the Portland Towers. In Ørestad there are the Number 8, the VM houses, the VM Mountain and student housing in Tietgen-kollegiet. You can also see newly designed office buildings such as the Axel Towers and the Maersk Tower as well as several cultural institutions: the Black Diamond ( the national library), the Opera house, the Play House, the Danish Radio building and the Royal Arena. Or you can take in the new aquarium called the Blue Planet, the new Zoo or not least Copenhill, the waste treatment plant with a ski slope on top!!, coming into operation soon. Also, the new Danish Architecture Centre – BLOX by Koolhaas – is open for you. If you want a less sophisticated and more bohemian version of Danish architectural creativity, try Christiania.
